The Signal Mountain Summit Road offers a different perspective on Grand Teton: looking across the valley as well as toward the mountains. But for RV travelers, the first decision is not which overlook to visit. It is which vehicle to take, because this road is not an RV route.

Leave the RV and trailer at your campsite
The National Park Service’s summit-road guide explicitly prohibits RVs and trailers. It describes a narrow, paved, winding road about five miles long that climbs roughly 800 feet, with two overlooks. A short scenic drive on a park map is not automatically suitable for a motorcoach, fifth wheel or travel trailer.
Use a suitable day vehicle and obey the posted restrictions. If your only transportation is your RV, choose a different permitted viewpoint instead of trying to see whether your particular rig might fit. Planning the right vehicle before leaving Windhaven avoids an unnecessary turnaround after a long drive.
Give the overlooks time to work
At a panoramic viewpoint, it helps to slow down before taking a photograph. Look across the valley, identify the water and ridgelines, and compare what you can see from each permitted stopping area. The broader view can help you understand how places visited earlier in the day relate to one another.
Do not stop in the travel lane to improve a composition. Use designated parking and pullouts, keep pedestrians clear of moving vehicles and secure loose items in windy conditions. A viewpoint is not an invitation to walk beyond a barrier or onto an unmarked hillside.
Drive or hike? Keep the two plans separate
NPS also describes a Signal Mountain hiking route. A search result mentioning the summit may refer to that trail rather than the road. Check which starting point and activity your map shows before committing to a distance or arrival time.
Choose based on your group. A scenic drive can suit a day focused on views rather than a demanding hike, but getting from parking to the view still deserves attention. Ask about surfaces and access if someone in your party has a mobility limitation. Do not infer accessibility simply because a road reaches a summit area.
Plan around the actual season
The summit road closes in winter. Check Grand Teton road information and park alerts before setting out; snow and other conditions can affect seasonal access. Windhaven stays open year-round, but that does not extend the operating season of every scenic road in the parks.

A big view and a quieter return
Windhaven’s riverside setting in Dubois gives your RV a settled home base while you explore by day vehicle. Plan the complete return route, account for stops and weather, and resist adding another attraction simply because it is on the same map. Let a good panoramic outing be enough.
