Spring RV camping in Dubois works best with a flexible plan. You can enjoy a riverside RV base and local experiences while keeping mountain-road access and attraction schedules separate from the date on your campground reservation. The important question is not simply whether a resort is open, but what you want to do once you arrive.
Windhaven is open year-round with full hookups. That does not mean every regional attraction, park entrance or backcountry road follows the same schedule.
Match your dates to your main reason for coming
Start with the activity you most want: a museum visit, time in Dubois, fishing or a national park outing. Check that attraction’s official information before reserving the rest of the trip. If your priority is Yellowstone, verify the entrance and interior roads you plan to use—not just whether the park itself is described as open.
Yellowstone’s official road page provides current status and projected seasonal opening dates. Roads open on different schedules and dates can change. An open highway toward the park is not proof that the South Entrance or your preferred interior route is available.
Check Grand Teton services separately
Use Grand Teton’s visitor information to check roads, services and seasonal operations. Build an itinerary around what is actually available during your dates rather than assuming a summer guide applies unchanged in spring.
For the bigger-picture choice of a Dubois home base, read our regional trip guide. Keep the return journey in the plan and leave yourself an alternative if access or weather changes.
Have a local plan you would enjoy anyway
A museum visit, town meal and time beside the river can be a worthwhile trip in their own right. Check current hours at the National Museum of Military Vehicles and browse our Things to Do page. Do not treat the local day as a consolation prize.
For fishing, confirm access and current rules using our Wind River planning guide. Conditions matter more than a generic statement that spring is a good season.
Prepare the RV for the actual forecast
Check the local weather forecast and WYDOT road conditions. Follow your RV manufacturer’s guidance for cold-weather operation and bring a heated water hose if freezing conditions are expected. Windhaven does not provide your RV’s cold-weather equipment.
Pack layers and keep a flexible departure window where possible. A full-hookup site is useful, but it does not eliminate the need to prepare your own RV appropriately.
