A Togwotee Pass scenic drive from Dubois does not have to become a race to every famous attraction beyond the mountains. You can make the journey itself the outing: scenery, a few deliberate stops and an unhurried return to your RV beside the Wind River.
The Wyoming landscape photograph above is from our approved regional collection; it illustrates the area’s varied scenery rather than identifying a particular Togwotee overlook. Plan actual stops from current maps and conditions.
Decide what kind of day you want
Before leaving, choose between a short scenic outing and a full Grand Teton or Jackson Hole day. Those are different plans. Set a turnaround time, consider the complete return drive and avoid adding another distant stop simply because it looks close on a map.
For a bigger park outing, use our Grand Teton day-trip guide. For a broader regional plan, see the Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Jackson Hole RV trip guide. This article focuses on enjoying the drive, not duplicating that entire itinerary.
Check the road before checking the camera
Use WYDOT’s road-condition map and cameras before departure. Look at the route you actually intend to drive and check again if weather changes. A scenic drive is optional; postponing it can be the best decision when conditions do not suit your vehicle or comfort level.
Take weather layers, water and a map you can access without relying on a continuous signal. If you have downloaded directions, still follow current signs and closures. A saved route does not overrule conditions on the road.
Make photo stops deliberate
Choose designated parking or appropriate pullouts with enough room for your vehicle. Do not stop in the travel lane to photograph scenery or wildlife. If a turnout is full, carry on rather than turning a photograph into a traffic problem.
Allow time for a stop to be more than a quick picture. Put the camera down, enjoy the view and decide whether the next leg adds something to the day. You are allowed to turn around before reaching a famous destination.
Use a touring vehicle when practical
Leaving a large RV connected at camp can make a sightseeing day simpler. Before using a side road, verify its surface, access and suitability; a dotted line on a map is not a recommendation for a motorhome or trailer. Do not assume a scenic detour has room to turn a long rig around.
Return to a slower evening
Windhaven gives you a full-hookup Dubois base for regional adventures and quieter time by the river. Browse our amenities, check site availability, or call (307) 855-5427. The best sightseeing day is not always the one with the most miles.
