Yellowstone and Grand Teton entrance passes deserve a separate place on your RV-trip checklist. Booking your campsite does not reserve a national park activity, and buying a park pass does not book your overnight stay. Keeping those arrangements distinct prevents a surprisingly common planning mix-up.
Two parks do not mean one standard entrance fee
Yellowstone’s official fee page and Grand Teton’s fee page explain each park’s entrance requirements. Standard park-specific passes are separate. An applicable America the Beautiful pass may instead suit a multi-park trip; compare the current options with the actual parks and dates on your itinerary.
Review current residency-related fees and the coverage of your chosen pass, particularly when the group includes international visitors. Use the official checkout and fee explanations rather than an old travel article’s price table. We deliberately link to those sources instead of freezing a changing fee into this guide.
An entrance pass is not a timed vehicle reservation
Both parks currently say vehicle reservations are not required for ordinary entrance. That does not remove the need for an entrance pass or make every activity available without a reservation. Check the official pages again close to departure because arrangements can change.
A campground, ranger program, guided activity or cruise may have separate availability and booking rules. Make a simple list with the provider, confirmation number and meeting location for each reserved experience. Do not label everything merely ‘Yellowstone reservation’ on your phone.
Prepare the documents before the entrance line
Keep the pass and required identification ready. Save relevant confirmations for offline access. If the family uses multiple vehicles, check how coverage applies instead of assuming the first car’s pass covers everyone arriving separately.
Also verify payment options at the park you will enter. A functioning credit or debit card and a saved confirmation are more useful than discovering payment requirements after a long drive. Never buy from an unofficial seller solely because a search advertisement appears first.
Book the home base independently
Windhaven RV Resort is in Dubois, outside both parks. Your Windhaven reservation establishes where you stay; it does not provide federal entrance privileges. Our regional RV trip guide helps you organize the park days, and our veteran pass guide points eligible travelers to the official program.
Once those separate arrangements are clear, you can spend less of the vacation untangling confirmations and more of it enjoying the places you came to see.
