A Wyoming hunting trip from Dubois starts well before arrival. Your hunt area, access arrangements and travel dates should drive the plan—not simply the name of a nearby town. Windhaven RV Resort offers a year-round RV basecamp in Dubois, with utilities and guest facilities that vary by season.
Start with the official hunt-planning resources
Use the Wyoming Game and Fish licensing resources and the department’s Hunt Planner and recreation resources to review your intended species, area and dates. Requirements vary; being near a hunting destination does not establish permission to hunt it.
Review Game and Fish’s What Do I Need to Hunt? resource for current requirements. Confirm land access and any outfitter requirements directly with the relevant authority or your licensed outfitter. This campground checklist is not a substitute for regulations.
Make the basecamp fit the hunt
Check where you will actually begin each day and how you will reach it. An in-town RV stay can work well for some trips, while others call for a different arrangement. Discuss meeting points and travel logistics with your guide if you have one; Windhaven does not sell guided hunts.
Confirm the practical details of your stay
- Choose dates that allow for arrival, preparation and packing up.
- Call with your RV length, trailer length and extra-vehicle needs.
- Check the rate for your dates, and call about weekly or monthly stays.
- Make any specialist arrangements needed for your hunt separately; do not assume an RV booking includes them.
Prepare for changing fall and winter weather
Check WYDOT road conditions before travel and each mountain drive. For off-season stays, arrive with your fresh-water tank filled and follow the winter-use guidance for your own RV. Keep your plans flexible when weather changes.
Choose a basecamp with the essentials
Windhaven stays open year-round. During regular-season stays, sites include water, sewer and 30/50-amp service. During off-season stays, electricity, sewer and Wi-Fi remain available; campground water is shut off for the season, and showers and laundry are unavailable. For a trip that includes non-hunting companions or a spare day, the National Museum of Military Vehicles offers another reason to spend time in Dubois; check the museum’s current schedule.
