A Wyoming RV trip. A quieter place to return.

Explore Yellowstone, Grand Teton & Jackson Hole from Dubois

The big sights are why you come. The way you unwind between them matters, too. Windhaven RV Resort offers a riverside RV home base in Dubois, Wyoming, for travelers who want to explore the region without spending their entire stay in the tourist rush.

Leave your RV settled in, head out for the day, and return to space, river views, and small-town ease.

Grand Teton scenery is part of the adventure. Windhaven is your base in Dubois—not inside the national parks.

Dramatic peaks. An unhurried return.

Grand Teton National Park from Dubois

Give the Tetons their own day. Choose a scenic drive, a lake stop, or a hike that suits your group rather than trying to squeeze every overlook into one afternoon. An early start leaves more room for the views—and time to return to your RV without rushing the evening.

For travelers comparing RV parks near Grand Teton National Park, the choice is about the whole trip: staying right by the park or choosing a Dubois campground with a quieter riverside setting between outings. Windhaven is the second option.

Use our Grand Teton day-trip guide as a starting point. Before you leave, check the official Grand Teton directions and road information for current access and construction updates.

Planning a quieter nature outing? Our Grand Teton wildflower guide explains how season and habitat shape the experience, without promising a particular bloom date.

Make room for the experience.

Planning a Yellowstone outing

Yellowstone deserves a realistic plan, not a race around the map. Pick the sights that matter most to you, check access to your chosen entrance, and allow for driving inside the park as well as the journey there and back. Geysers, wildlife stops, parking, and a long lunch can turn a simple itinerary into a full day. If wildlife is the priority, use our Yellowstone wildlife-watching guide to plan safe stopping distance and a flexible route.

If Yellowstone is the main focus of several consecutive days, compare staying closer to your chosen park entrance with using Dubois as one stop on a broader Wyoming RV trip. Windhaven is especially appealing when your trip also includes the Tetons, Jackson Hole, and the Wind River area.

A year-round resort is not a year-round park route. Windhaven is open all year, but Yellowstone’s entrances and roads have seasonal restrictions. Check the National Park Service’s Yellowstone directions and road-status links before planning your drive. Do not assume summer access applies in winter.

Choose the Yellowstone experience that interests your group: read our Yellowstone Lake cruise planning guide, use the Canyon Visitor Education Center guide for a geology-focused stop, or compare the route and walking involved in a Mammoth Hot Springs outing. If fishing is part of the trip, review our Yellowstone fishing permit guide before choosing a water. These are separate planning options—not a suggested single-day loop.

Enjoy the energy. Return to the quiet.

Jackson & Jackson Hole as part of your RV trip

A day exploring Jackson can be part of the adventure without making it your whole vacation. Plan the stops you want, enjoy the town and surrounding valley, and then come back to the slower pace of Dubois.

If you are searching for Jackson Hole RV parks or a campground for a regional tour, consider where you want to spend your downtime. Windhaven is not an RV park in Jackson. It is a Dubois alternative for travelers who prefer a riverside home base outside the busiest destination areas.

Build Jackson and Grand Teton into separate days if your plans are full, or combine a few carefully chosen stops when it makes sense. Use current directions for your exact destinations rather than one drive-time estimate for the entire region.

For a specific outing, compare a Teton Village aerial tram sightseeing day with a visit to the Jackson Hole History Museum. Confirm the activity’s current availability before making your driving plan.

The other half of a great trip.

A full-hookup RV basecamp on the Wind River

After days of exploring, your site should make settling back in easy. Windhaven’s spacious sites offer water, sewer, and 30- and 50-amp service, with pull-through and back-in options, showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a fenced dog park.

Stay for the big sights, but leave space for Dubois itself: a river evening, a quieter day, or a visit to the National Museum of Military Vehicles. Browse our RV resort amenities and seasonal adventures before you plan.

Before choosing your RV site, compare Windhaven site rates, review the campground map, and check arrival information and guest guidelines. Bringing a large rig or another trailer? Call us to discuss the setup.

Plan a trip that gives you room to breathe

Choose your priorities

Give each big destination enough time. Start with the experiences your group most wants, then build the driving days around them.

Check before you go

Review park access and Wyoming road conditions. Conditions, construction, and seasonal closures can change a route. Before a Yellowstone day, use our wildfire smoke and closure checks to separate air, road and trail decisions.

Keep a Dubois day

Mix national-park outings with local exploring. Our Dubois things-to-do guide helps you find the quieter side of the trip.

Build a Wyoming stay, not a race between attractions

Use Windhaven as your riverside RV home base, then give each outing its own room in the itinerary. This is a flexible planning example, not a promise that every park route or activity is available in every season.

A Grand Teton day

Choose one main experience—a scenic outing, a walk, or a separately booked activity—and leave time to enjoy it. Before setting out, decide whether to take your RV or a smaller day vehicle. Our Grand Teton RV parking guide helps you make that choice.

A Dubois day

Stay closer to your campsite for a day built around the National Museum of Military Vehicles, a look around Dubois, and an unhurried evening back at Windhaven. Museum admission and activities are arranged separately from your RV reservation.

A Yellowstone day—or more time

Choose the Yellowstone area you most want to see instead of trying to cover the whole park in one outing. Check current access and road conditions, and save your offline day plan before leaving. If you are taking the RV into the park, review our Yellowstone RV road-restrictions guide before using scenic side roads. If Yellowstone is the main purpose of your vacation, build more time into the trip rather than treating every stop as a quick day visit.

Before setting out, read our park entrance planning guide and confirm current requirements on the official park websites. Compare current Windhaven site rates and check RV site availability. Call (307) 855-5427 for weekly or monthly stays.

Questions about staying in Dubois

Is Windhaven inside Yellowstone, Grand Teton, or Jackson Hole?

No. Windhaven RV Resort is at 646 South 1st Street in Dubois, Wyoming, along the Wind River. It is a regional home base, not an in-park campground or a Jackson address.

Can we leave our RV at Windhaven for day trips?

Yes. Keep your RV on your reserved site during your stay and use your separate vehicle for outings if that suits your travel setup. Choose your route and return plans around the destinations you want to visit.

Can we visit all three destinations in one day?

We recommend giving your priorities more breathing room. Yellowstone in particular involves substantial driving within the park. Choose a realistic day’s itinerary rather than trying to cover the entire region at once.

Is Windhaven open for winter RV camping?

Yes. Windhaven is open year-round, including full hookups, restrooms, showers, and laundry. Bring a heated water hose and an RV prepared for freezing weather. Winter stays at the resort do not mean every park road is open. See our winter RV camping guide.

How do we book a longer stay?

Call (307) 855-5427 for weekly and monthly stays. For daily stays, check availability online or call us. Check-in is 2 p.m.; check-out is 11 a.m.

See the famous places. Come back to Windhaven.

Your Wyoming trip can have both: big experiences out there and a comfortable, quieter place to return to along the Wind River.

Build your park day around the experience you want

Choose a main experience, then use the detailed guide to plan walking, transport and seasonal access. Windhaven is your Dubois home base outside the parks; these stops are not all on one short driving loop.

Yellowstone: thermal walks, water and viewpoints

Compare Norris’s Porcelain Basin and Back Basin, the four thermal-feature types at Fountain Paint Pot, and Mud Volcano and Dragon’s Mouth. For a different landscape, plan West Thumb beside Yellowstone Lake or choose the walking and views in our Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone guide. Decide between the Grand Prismatic boardwalk and overlook before setting out.

Grand Teton: a lake, a float or a quieter perspective

Read the current-route advice for Taggart Lake, explore the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve, or plan a Snake River scenic float. The Signal Mountain summit road prohibits RVs and trailers. Other options include Menors Ferry and the Chapel of the Transfiguration, Jackson Lake cruise planning, and limited-mobility scenic outings.

Jackson: choose a specific reason to visit

Our National Museum of Wildlife Art guide offers an art-focused outing. Our National Elk Refuge guide explains winter and sleigh-ride planning without promising a sighting. Make the return route and seasonal road conditions part of either plan.
