Regional forest scenery from our approved photo collection. Dogsled tours are separately operated winter excursions; this photograph does not depict a tour.
Dogsledding near Dubois can give a winter RV trip a memorable guided outing without making snowmobiling the only activity. Investigate the Togwotee-area tour options, confirm the date and equipment requirements, and plan the travel separately from your Windhaven RV Resort reservation.
Where to investigate guided dogsled tours
Continental Divide Dogsled Adventures lists guided tours from Togwotee Mountain Lodge, with different outing lengths and booking arrangements. Its site explains that a self-drive option means driving yourself to the meeting location—not renting a sled to take out independently.
Confirm the exact tour you want with the operator. Different listings can have different age, capacity or other requirements, and the current booking details should govern your choice. Do not assume a requirement from one tour automatically applies to another. Windhaven does not operate the tours or sell an included dogsledding package.
Choose the outing for your group
Ask whether a shorter ride or a longer guided outing is the best fit. Explain who is coming, any relevant assistance needs and whether you are hoping to participate in handling the sled. Participation is something to discuss with the guide, not a promise that every guest will drive a team.
Ask where to meet, how early to arrive and how much total time to allow. Confirm whether food, transportation or clothing is included in your selected booking. Published transportation options for Jackson do not mean pickup is available from Windhaven in Dubois.
Use the operator’s clothing checklist
A seated or standing winter outing can feel different from a brisk walk. Follow the operator’s clothing and equipment guidance, and ask what it supplies versus what you must bring. Discuss boots, outer layers, gloves and eye protection as appropriate to the tour.
Prepare phones and cameras for the outing, but ask how to carry them without interfering with the guide or dogs. Do not let the wish for a photograph take priority over instructions. Plan a place to change or warm up afterward rather than scheduling the next activity immediately.
Winter road checks belong in the plan
Use WYDOT’s current road information and the operator’s instructions before departure. Ask about weather cancellations, rebooking and what to do if the approach becomes unsuitable. A confirmed tour date is not a guarantee that every road will be comfortable for every vehicle.
If conditions are unfavorable, keep a Dubois-based alternative ready. Our indoor activities guide can help you choose a different day plan. Do not force a mountain outing to preserve a timetable.
Your winter RV stay is a separate part of the trip
Windhaven is open year-round. During the off season, electricity, sewer and Wi-Fi remain available. Campground water is shut off for the season, and showers and laundry are unavailable, so arrive with your fresh-water tank filled. Book online, or call/text (307) 855-5427 with questions about your stay.
For longer visits, weekly and monthly stays are a call-us arrangement. Do not assume a tour operator’s winter schedule determines Windhaven’s availability, or that a campsite reservation includes the tour.
Put one special outing at the center of the day
Pair dogsledding with a relaxed return rather than another major drive. Browse Seasonal Adventures and our RV amenities to build a winter visit that balances activities and time at your own home base.
